Do FIFA and football community really care about global football?

An African team in the men's semi-finals... The world cheers! 🌍 Yet again, a momentary bit of interest in African football from the international football community.

So while we're paying attention..... ⤵️

Here's some REAL TALK about FOOTBALL in most countries in the world, generously provided by the 2019 FIFA survey... (It's almost as though they thought no would read or remember it! 🤯)

❌❗ Alarming statistics of the number of registered FEMALE players and coaches within the formal football structures. Here's a breakdown of the stats from just 3 African countries to illustrate (where there are actually stats available):

📊 #KENYA: 6% of qualified coaches were women. 20,000 female players played organized football out of population of 49,700,000 (0.04%).

📊 #MALAWI: 5% of qualified coaches were women. 6000 female players played organized football out of population of 17,215,000 (0.03%).

📊 #UGANDA: 8% of qualified coaches were women. 5,366 female players played organized football out of population of 39,032,000 (0.01%).

🌍❓ During this fleeting moment of interest we all have about African football, can we let these stats from just 3 countries sink in. Going to take a lot more than our momentary support of one men's African team every 4 years to make football a game for everyone. Does FIFA and the international football community really care about global football (irrespective of gender of player)??

*** Also side note: of the 211 football federations recognized by FIFA, only 25 have some level of professional women's football - thanks FIFPRO 2021.
