Web 3.0 and the potential to improve sport, for everyone.

⚠️ What I´m feeling alarmed about! (And motivated to fix!)

📱 We´ve lived through the hyper globalization, commercialization, and digitalization “Web 2.0” era, during which time much of the professional sports industry became fragmented, unequal, and extractive.

🌐 The Web 3.0 era we´re now moving into is on course to disrupt and shape the future of sport. There is enormous potential to improve sport for everyone (saving the “how” for a later post...), although in order to realize that potential, everyone needs to be included.

** But that´s currently not happening.

⚠️ It´s alarming to me that the majority of Web 3.0 x Sport innovations are founded / led by men, and it is men´s sport (in the global north) that is disproportionately benefiting. And most of my women-identifying and non-binary friends, colleagues, and teammates in sport aren´t talking about or studying Web 3.0...

🧗‍♀️ So many gains have been made over the past few years for more women to play and work in sport, take up leadership positions, and benefit from more media coverage and investment. We have seen greater equality in sport now than ever before.

⏩ But unless all women and non-binary leaders across all sports, everywhere, are included in and driving Web 3.0 innovation, it may set back these recent equality gains and become yet another hurdle that we are going to have to overcome. And that´s why I´ve been studying like crazy.

❔ Is anyone more or less optimistic?! Any great Web 3.0 x Sport x Equality examples for inspiration?
